“Best Actor” “Best Actress “Award in Tier 1 and Tier 2

(16 March 2023, Hong Kong) Organized by the Hong Kong Association of Interactive Marketing (“AIM”) with Create Hong Kong (“CreateHK”) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (“HKSAR”) as the Lead Sponsor, the 10^th Microfilm Production Support Scheme (Music)(“Support Scheme”) held the Awards Presentation Ceremony cum Premiere at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre today. Other than presenting the 26 awards under the Support Scheme, the selected works were also screened in the Award Presentation Ceremony.

32 produced microfilms under the 10^th Support Scheme competed for various awards in Tier 1 “Advertising Production Start-ups” and Tier 2 “Small Advertising Production Enterprises”. The produced microfilms demonstrated a high level of professionalism, creativity and technical excellence, they received high praise from the judging panel. This year, two Gold Awards of “Best Microfilm Production Award” were born in the Tier 1 “Advertising Production Start-ups”, the awards go to “Bless You” produced by Southern Creations , directed by CHENG Kai Lai and “My Pineapple Bun” produced by Back. Lot Studio, directed by MAK Chi Ho. The microfilm “42M”, directed by Frankie LEE and starring Siufay, stood out from the rest in Tier 2 “Small Advertising Production Enterprises”, and won the Gold Award for “Best Microfilm Production Award”. O3 (Ophelia SO), Eric CHOW, Sherman CHUNG, Joey TANG won the Gold award of “Best Microfilm Actress Award” and “Best Microfilm Actor Award” in the Tier 1 and Tier 2.

After three years of hiatus, the physical awards presentation ceremony cum premiere returns. To commemorate this special occasion, the organizer is delighted to have Mr. LAU Chun, Raistlin, JP, Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the HKSAR as the Guest-of-Honor of the event. He will be accompanied by Mr. Ralph SZETO, Chairman of AIM, Mr. Francis FONG, Founding and Honorary Chairman of AIM and Mr. Ricky FUNG, BBS, CEO of IFPI (Hong Kong Group) to witness the birth of the award winners.

Mr. LAU Chun, Raistlin, JP, Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the HKSAR, thanked AIM for organizing the “Support Scheme” once again and congratulated the award-winning teams in his speech at the Awards Presentation Ceremony.

Mr. Ralph SZETO, Chairman of AIM stated at the Awards Presentation Ceremony that the “Support Scheme” will promotional events for its 10^th Anniversary in the second half of the year, hoping to celebrate and reunite with the participants in the 1^st -10^th editions.

Tier 1 “Advertising Production Start-ups”

 “Bless You” & “My Pineapple Bun” become the big winners in Tier 1, both received the Gold Award of “Best Microfilm Production Award” in Tier 1 

Two microfilms jointly received the Gold Award of “Best Microfilm Production Award” in Tier 1 this year. The awards go to “Bless You” produced by Southern Creations and directed by CHENG Kai Lai, and “My Pineapple Bun” produced by Back. Lot Studio and directed by MAK Chi Ho. Both microfilms won three awards in Tier 1, making them the big winners in the group.

Both works are recognized by the judging panel in scriptwriting, directing, acting, and production, therefore, won the Gold Award for ‘Best Microfilm Production Award. “Bless You” won the “Best Scriptwriting Award” with its innovative plot; the actress of the film, singer O3 played the role of a sampling officer in a testing center, wore a mask for most of the scenes, was praised by the judges for her outstanding acting skills, particularly her expressive eyes that shone through the mask. She also won the “Best Microfilm Actress Award” in Tier 1.

Another Gold Award goes to “My Pineapple Bun”, the microfilm revolves around a Hong Kong style restaurant. It is a heartwarming microfilm with “Hong Kong flavor”. The art director LUI Hei Kiu also won the “Best Microfilm Art Direction Award”. In the film, actor Eric CHOW portrays the son who travels back in time and develops an interesting and engaging storyline with the father (acted by Nicky WONG Yung Tai) and mother (acted by TO Siu Kiu) characters in the film; With his natural emotional transitions and skillful performances, Eric also earned the Gold Award for “Best Microfilm Actor Award.”

Kimman’s explosive acting skill was evident in excellent portrayal of inner struggle

In the same Tier (Tier 1), “12.31.23.59″, produced by West House Production Limited and directed by CHEUNG Hoi Yin, actor Kimman WONG, who portrayed the character’s fear and inner turmoil over losing his memories, won the Silver Award for “Best Microfilm Actor Award” in Tier 1 and the Bronze Award for “Best Microfilm Actor Award” went to Keith CHUNG, the actor of “A Touch of Sin”, produced by Ranger Production and directed by CHOI Ka Ho.

“Up, Up and Away”, produced by Mirror Films, directed by TAM Kai Yin, Canice, the production team’s thoughtful and skillful handling of scene transitions and mature cinematography, blurring the boundaries between fantasy and reality, which brought the production team the Silver Award of the “Best Microfilm Production Award “and the “Best Cinematography Award”.

Frances YIP Won Bronze Award of “Best Microfilm Actress Award”

with Excellent Acting Skill

“Unfinished Business”, produced by The Bards Limited and directed by SZE Fo Kei, won the Bronze Award of “Best Microfilm Production Award”. In the film, lead actress Frances YIP portrayed the emotions of separation with exquisite and delicate acting skills. The director also incorporated music into the microfilm to match Frances YIP’s emotionally singing voice and stirring the audience’s emotions. Frances YIP also earned the Bronze Award for “Best Microfilm Actress Award.”

Chloe WONG won the Silver Award for the “Best Microfilm Actress Award” for her performance in “Defeated”. The microfilm is produced by One Fam Studio Limited, directed by TSANG Pak Ki. The judges were impressed by the performance of Chloe’s first microfilm.

The “Most Popular Microfilm Award” was voted by the public online, the winner went to “Fated”, produced by Hey Soul Studio, directed by Hazel TSUI.

Tier 2 Small Advertising Production Enterprises

A touching story, “42M” is honored with three awards

In Tier 2, “42M” produced by Frankie Lap Production, and directed by Frankie LEE, uses dramatic tension to captivate the audience. With precise shooting techniques, it touched many viewers and judges, winning several awards, including the Gold Award of “Best Microfilm Production Award” and “Best Cinematography Award”. Siufay’s acting in the film was deeply moving, crowning him with the Silver Award of the “Best Microfilm Actor Award”.

Seamless collaboration between members of Andy is Typing…,

partnering to present a youth love story

“Brave New Era”, produced by Junes and directed by Steve LI, features four members of the band “Andy is Typing…”, with a storyline that combines friendship and romance. The characters complement each other in the drama, creating touching moments and plot developments that left both judges and audiences feeling the romance and beauty of a youthful love story. As a result, “Brave New Era” won the Silver Award for “Best Microfilm Production Award”, Director & Scriptwriter Steve LI also won the “Best Microfilm Scriptwriting Award” in Tier 2.

Produced by Yea Juk Production Limited and directed by TO Chun-him, the storyline of “Overman” presents an innovative and surprising storyline with a unique and creative perspective on the concept of a superhero. The unique microfilm theme was enhanced by its animation elements, making the work even more distinctive and earning the honor for the Bronze Award of “Best Microfilm Production Award”.

In Tier 2 “Small Advertising Production Enterprises”, “Impossible Dreams” produced by Wolf Pack Production Limited, directed by TIN Tin Po and starred by Joey TANG, was crowned the Gold Award of the “Best Microfilm Actor Award”, his performance was spot on and he even acted his own action scenes, which set him apart from his competitors.

The excellent quality of the works has also allowed many singers to show their talent. In this edition, there are two outstanding actors received the Bronze award of “Best Microfilm Actor Award”. One of them is Jonathan WONG Chee Hynn, the male lead in “FOMO”, produced by CoverDog Production Limited and directed by CHEUNG Din Sing, Danson. In the film, Jonathan WONG Chee Hynn and Michelle YIM portray a mother and son who face communication difficulties in their relationship, reflecting the challenges of modern families. Jonathan’s performance in the film won him the Bronze Award for the “Best Microfilm Actor Award” in Tier 2.

The other Bronze Award was given to Laurie LAU , “My Monster,” directed by Alchemist Production and CHENG Chi Shing, Will. Laurie won the award for his performance, which relied solely on emotions and actions as he had no dialogue in the film. From the various details in the movie, it is evident that the production team put in a lot of effort into the art direction. The two art directors Jill Leung Hoi Yee and Tammy Tai Yuk Ting also received the “Best Microfilm Art Direction Award”.

The outstanding acting skills of Sherman are recognized

Sherman CHUNG, who participated in the support program for the first time, won the Gold Award of the “Best Microfilm Actress Award”, with her performance in “Ferocious”, produced by Kingman Media Company Limited and directed by Kingman CHOI. Sherman played two roles as a KOL and a female ghost. Her natural performance led the audience step by step to the end of the story.

“Epiphany”, produced by Hobbyhub Entertainment and directed by Down Wong, the character played by Chiutung is cold on the outside but warm on the inside. Chiutung portrayed the character perfectly, making the audience feel the charm of the character, and she won the Silver Award for “Best Microfilm Actress Award” in Tier 2.

“Twilight Fantasy”, produced by Someday Island Limited and directed by Choi Kwok Yi, starred the singer LOK Yan Ming. For the first time, LOK Yan Ming played a character in a magical world, her performance was very dedicated, and she won the Bronze Award of ” Best Microfilm Actress Award”.

The winner of the Tier 2 “Most Popular Microfilm Award” voted by public went to “FOMO” produced by CoverDog Production Limited, directed by CHEUNG Din Sing, Danson.

The 10^th Microfilm Production Support Scheme (Music)

The 10^th Microfilm Production Support Scheme (Music) (“Support Scheme”) comprises two tiers. For the Tier 1 “Advertising Production Start-ups”, it has 21 teams, each formed by a local advertising start-up established within the last six years, one local director who has less than six years’ experience, and a local singer/group paired up with the start-up through drawing of ballots. Each team received a maximum subsidy of HK$120,000 to produce its original microfilms with storylines of four to eight minutes. As for the Tier 2 “Small Advertising Production Enterprises”, it has 10 teams, each formed by a local small-sized advertising production company established within the last 12 years, a local director who has less than 12 years’ experience and a local singer/group teamed up with the company by themselves. Each team received a subsidy up to HK$220,000 to produce its original microfilm with storylines of 12 to 16 minutes.

The singers/groups who participated in the Support Scheme provided songs for use and performed in the microfilms of their own teams and thereby earned more performing experiences and increased exposure.

Besides, training, mentorship and all-round promotional support for the participating teams will be provided by the organizer, including exhibiting in the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART) 2023, which was held physically from March 13th to 16^th, to let the worldwide entertainment companies to know more about microfilms produced in Hong Kong. The teams with prominent performances will be recommended for further participation in international microfilm or short film-related competitions for more people to appreciate the creative works of Hong Kong’s younger generation.
